SMILE – Smart Manufacturing Innovation Lean Excellence centre – is the Digital Innovation Hub in Parma (Italy), part of the Regional Digital Innovation Hubs network, based on the European program called I4MS.

I4MS in a nutshell

With this summary paper, published in June 2016, the European Commission described the I4MS initiative launched to improve the digital transformation of the European manufacturing sector. Highlights: Stage 1 and 2 projects, some success stories, expected results, but above all describing the creation of European Competence Centers and Digital Innovation Hubs.

The competitiveness of Italian manufacturing companies depends on their ability to deliver highly innovative products, where innovation often comes from the progress that can be achieved through the adoption of ICT solutions. The solution to this need can be provided by a Digital Innovation Hub like ours, which aims to promote state-of-the-art technologies and spread ICT-based research projects. SMILE studies and proposes industrial IoT solutions and Ciber-Phisical Sistems directly but, thanks to the European network of which it is part, can help you identify all Industry 4.0 solutions  (eg robotics, cloud-based simulation services and high performance computing systems, additive manufacturing, laser based applications, intelligent sensor equipment).

The territorial ecosystem we are addressing

Industry 4.0 is the engine that must accelerate the competitiveness of businesses in the territorial economic system in which HUB is integrated.

SMILE DIH mainly focuses its activities on all the companies established in the Emilia-Romagna Region and an area comprised of the italian provinces of Pavia, Cremona, Mantua, La Spezia, Massa Carrara and Livorno (the “integrated area”). The development policies of the Unione Parmense degli Industriali, through the direct and coordinated affiliation of the respective Territorial Associations belonging to the Confindustria system.

We coordinate industrial research projects with a number of accredited competence centers.

The Rete Alta Tecnologia (High Technology Network) of the Emilia-Romagna Region by itself (coordinated by ASTER), eg, can boast 1.052 specialists and in particular:
